Top 10 Rio 2016 Olympics Medal Tally; PHL ranks 21


As of  July 09, 2016 at 12:17 am, the United States lead the participating countries in the 2016 Rio Olympics with a total of 12 medals (3 golds, 5 silvers, 4 bronze) followed by Italy with a total 8 medals (3 golds, 3 silvers, 2 bronze) then the China with 8 medals  (3 golds, 2 silvers, 3 bronze).

The 4th and the 5th ranking countries are Japan (7 medals) and Australia (6 medals).

The rest of the top 10 are occupied by Russia, South Korea, Hungary, Great Britan and Sweden consecutively.

Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ended Philippine Olympic medal drought with weightlifting silver, the Philippines registered itself to rank 21.

Diaz finished with a score of 200kg at the women’s 53kg category following the gold-medalist Shu-Ching Hsu of Chinese Taipei and leading bronze medalist Jin Hee Yoon of Korea.

The Mindanaoan lady's victory ended some 20 years of scarce for Philippine Olympic Team.

The last athlete to win a silver medal in the Olympics was the boxer-turned comedian Onyok Velasco at the 1996 in Atlanta — yes, two decades of waiting.

Following her victory, reports surfacing that Hidilyn Diaz is to expect P5M reward and a house and lot.
